I'll start with a question about your life in general. It's very full: teaching, four years as Dean of the Arts Faculty at Trinity College Dublin, writing both poetry and prose, your life as wife and mother, with your son leaving university. How do you balance all of this? You have three careers here. Yes, depending on how you count. I suppose one answer is that I function fairly well when I am unbalanced. I think the writing of poetry happens quite often when I should be doing something else. I think that with having pressures on time, you make a decision like: 'No I am not going to read those documents; I am going to write down this poem instead, and I am going to come back later and do the other work.' I think it suits me. It is probably not bad for poetry. I am not so sure how good it is for the other parts of my life, but I try not to neglect them.
